Meal Plans

In order to meet your campus dining needs, we have designed the following meal plans for the 2011-2012 academic year. If you need to purchase a meal plan, or if you would like to make a change to the plan you have already selected, simply contact the MSUM Housing Office at 218.477.2118.

It's a Deal!
The meal plans are priced on an assumed participation rate: that is, there is a percentage of meals per plan each week that persons probably will choose. It is normal for a student not to consume all of their meals each week.

This year's options include 21,14 and 10 Meals/Week plans, and the 120Meal / 250 meals per Semester, each of which carries 100 Dragon Dollars per semester. In addition, upperclass residents can choose the Dragon Plan that consists of only $300 Dragon Dollars/semester(Freshman residents are ineligible for this plan). Because of the presumed participation rate discussed earlier, there is no credit or rebate for uneaten meals nor will meals carry over from Fall to Spring semester. The 21, 14, and 10 Meal Plans allow that specified number of meals per week to be eaten. The Any 120/250 Meal Plan allows 120/250 meals in one semester to be eaten.

With the 21, 14, and 10 meals per week plans:
The 21 Meals/Week plan is the maximum plan - it provides all the meals served. On the 14,and 10 Meals/Week plans that specific number of meals is available to be eaten during a seven day period. No more than one meal can be eaten per service time. Skipped meals are forfeited. In the event that a student has to withdraw from the university or terminate a contract, these plans are subject to a pro rated refund on the number of weeks the plan is no longer in effect.

With the Any 120/250 Meals per Semester Plans:
This plan allow any combination of 120/250 meals selected over the entire semester to be eaten. It provides the same "unlimited seconds' portions, but is a little more costly per meal because it assumes that all the meals purchased will be eaten. This plan also allows the card holder to bring in up to 4 guests to eat a meal, and their meals will be charged against the hosts' balance of remaining meals.

Dragon Plan Contracts
This option carries no meal plan per semester, but does include the standard 300 Dragon Dollars per semester.

There are additional Meal Plan "Extras"
Your student can learn about them by reading the Residence Hall Handbook once they arrive and check in. The meal plans include both a Sick Tray option that is in effect should a student became ill and be unable to get to Kise for meals, and a "To Go" option when a student has a class or work conflict with a scheduled meal.

How to change Meal Plan Options
Requests to reduce your meal plan for can be made any weekday during the first two weeks of the semester. Requests to change to a larger meal plan can be made at any time. You may request to reduce your meal plan for spring semester during the last two weeks of fall or during the first two weeks of the semester.

Students simply go to the Housing office and complete a Change of Meal Plan Request Form. Requests to change to a larger meal plan can be made at any time. There is no fee for the first meal plan change per semester, however additional changes in the same semester will result in a charge of $10 per change. Meal plan changes need to be submitted to the housing office by 4pm Friday to become effective for the upcoming week. Your old meal plan remains available to you until the Saturday change becomes effective.

Dragon Dollars

Another component of the meal plan is the 100 Dragon Dollar balance which is added to the contract each semester (and is included in the cost of the meal plan). These Dragon Dollars can be used in Kise, Subs & Sweets, and Cafe Connection. There's no need to carry cash -just the meal card. The Dragon Dollars will carry over from Fall to Spring semester, but not beyond the end of Spring semester The balance can be checked at any time by asking the checker. Additional Dragon Dollars can be purchased in $25 increments at the Sodexo office in Kise. Dragon Dollars are not subject to any refund unless a student withdraws from the university. If a room and board contract is terminated, the Dragon Dollars remain on the ID and may still be used.

Meal Cards
Lost or stolen Meal Cards can be replaced. Should this happen to you… A student's meal card is their MSUM ID and is nontransferable; it may not be loaned to a friend for use. The meal card may be used only by the student purchaser and this ID must be presented to the ticket checker at every meal. The only access a person has to the Kise dining area during meal hours is through the checker's station. Persons must either present an ID coded with meal plan information or pay the casual meal rate in cash. Temporary passes (when an ID has been forgotten or mislaid) can be obtained from the Sodexo Office staff for a period of up to three days; after these three days, a new university ID card will have to be purchased.

Dining Policies

You never have to be too shy to ask for seconds with our Campus Dining Program. Our generous policy allows for a second helping of many menu favorites. All you have to do is ask! Please note, however, that are a some exceptions to our Seconds Policy including: Special event meals such as "midnight breakfast" where steak and eggs are traditionally served as well as other special events like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter dinner.

One of our main goals is to provide a pleasant, clean, comfortable and satisfying dining experience. In order to meet this goal, we ask for your assistance with the following procedures:

• Please bus your tray and disposables from your table when you have finished dining

• Please refrain from taking food, dishes or utensils from the dining area.

• Remember that Meal Cards are non-transferable. Meal cards cannot be used by anyone but the purchaser.
